Universal Works
biography:
Universal Works aim to produce a well made, well considered, easy to wear and affordable collection of menswear for men who want contemporary clothes, but understand tradition and who value looking good without ever trying too hard.
The brand is based around an understanding of classic working clothes, from the workshop to the office, but with a modern slant on fit and shape. All Universal Works knitwear and denims are made in the UK using handpicked factories. Shirts and jersey pieces are currently made in India, by one handpicked and family run factory.
Universal Works has come from a background of Paul Smith and Maharishi through its founder David Keyte. The collections have his signature through his love of craft and a feeling that someone cared about the production of the items.
The garments have a “lived in” and “old favourite” feel, pressing is light and all garments have a washed finish. Details are often quirky and off beat, like pocket flaps placed off centre and interesting stitching detailing hidden on collars. All garments are designed to stand-alone and function well, yet also fit together within a collection.
